What will 2020 have in store for travelers?
2019 was an amazing year for travelers. As I blogged my way around the world, I heard from hundreds of travelers who were also following their own path, wherever it may lead. In 2019 you told me that you explored off-the-beaten-path destinations, reducing your carbon footprint, living like a local and making authentic connections along the way.
Could 2020 possibly be any better?
Once again, I consulted the internet’s top astrologers, who carefully analyzed thousands of comet trajectories and cloud formations. They combined this data with information collected through a wide variety of tea-leaf and palm readings to get a complete picture of the year ahead. Together, we carefully carved your 2020 travel horoscope into a globe-shaped stone (so, a sphere?) and tossed it into the deepest depths of the sea.
Once again, I asked twelve travel bloggers – one representing each sign of the zodiac – to have a little fun. Everyone shared one one of their absolute favorite travel destinations and outlined exactly what makes that place resonate with other travelers who share their star sign. In a way, we really did create your 2020 travel horoscope, although it’s based more on where you’ll find affordable boutique hotels than on what was revealed in our crystal ball.
Keep reading to find out what 2020 has in store for your travels, and don’t forget to tell us in the comments if your astrological profile is accurate (or if you decide to book a trip based on your star sign!).
Aries 2020 Travel Horoscope
2020 Dream Destination for Aries Travelers: Swakopmund, Namibia
As a fiery, impatient, and adrenaline-addict Aries, Namibia’s Swakopmund is my favorite holiday destination, and my recommendation for Aries travelers in 2020.
Swakopmund lies in notorious Skeleton Coast, where the Namib Desert meets the rough waves of the Atlantic – there’s no shortage of drama here. As a proof, countless shipwrecks dot the hostile coastline and tourists constantly get stuck when challenging their cars in soft sand.
Swakopmund is the adventure capital of Southern Africa, with an exciting array of adrenaline-fueled things to do. You can choose between dune boarding, sky diving, quad biking, surfing, and thrilling horseback rides or 4×4 drives through the desert. If you don’t feel pumped enough, Namibia’s best roastery cafés (Slowtown and Two Beards) and craft gin distilleries (Stillhouse and Copper & Coal) will fuel your flames further. My favorite activities in Swakopmund include nature: photographing Cape fur seals and flamingos, tracking down desert-adapted wildlife on independent 4×4 drives, and climbing the nearby dunes for drastic views over the sand and sea.
The climate in Skeleton Coast is as harsh and unpredictable as the temper of Aries, and weather can change instantly from the dense fog, roaring winds, and stormy skies in the morning to sunny and bright afternoons. To balance the heat of Aries, the climate is pleasantly calm year-round, compared to other Namibian destinations. Summer high temps hover between 23C and 30C. The raging Atlantic remains chilly even in summer months (November to April), so swimming both challenges and soothes flaming Aries.

Taurus 2020 Travel Horoscope
2020 Dream Destination for Taurus Travelers: Koh Phangan, Thailand
I’m a Taurus, which means I love hanging out in relaxing environments. Koh Phangan, a tiny island in the Gulf of Thailand, is thus one of the best destinations for people of my zodiac sign and one that I intend to keep returning to because the whole island is a perfect little paradise with relaxed people and stunning nature.
Around 90% of Koh Phangan is made up of protected forest! The local hippie community welcomes anyone who’s keen to embrace yoga and mindfulness and spend the days meditating, detoxing and cleansing both the body and mind. Buddhist temples dot the island and provide yet another opportunity to find peace. As well, many of these temples feature stunning views, and there’s even a herbal steam sauna at a temple in the south of the island.
Feeling the soothing power of the ocean when swimming in the turquoise waters, strolling in the powdery white sand for hours on end, gazing in awe at the vivid colors the sky puts on during sunset… that’s how one can enjoy his or her days in Koh Phangan. Oh, and did I mention that when you need to temporarily wake up from the dream and actually get some work done, there are plenty of coworking spaces and cafés? Perfect for a hardworking Taurus in 2020!

Gemini 2020 Travel Horoscope
2020 Dream Destination for Gemini Travelers: Scotland
I’m a Gemini, which means I’m adaptable, outgoing, impulsive and indecisive. Scotland is pretty much the definition of all those things!
First, there’s the wonderful hospitality and friendliness of the people and the incredible scenery… and then there’s the weather. Let’s just call it unreliable.
One of my favourite things about Scotland is the ability to have it all- you can be in the middle of nowhere for breakfast, up a mountain for lunch and in the middle of a city enjoying the nightlife by dinner. It’s a complete contradiction in every sense- and that’s part of the fun.
A Scotland road trip is by far the best way for a Gemini in 2020 to see this incredible country. Having a car, or even a camper, allows you to see places what tours just don’t go. Even if you only get to the Highlands for a few days, it’s definitely worth the trip. No matter how long you have, plan your Scotland Itinerary carefully so you see a little bit of everything this beautiful country has to offer. Just make sure to pack sunglasses and a coat.

Cancer 2020 Travel Horoscope
2020 Dream Destination for Cancer Travelers: Puglia, Italy
Usually I don’t choose my holiday destinations thinking at my sign, but maybe also this has something to do with the fact that I instantly love certain places. I am Cancer, a water sign, so I like history, old places, good food and of course, water.
When I decided to visit Puglia, Italy, I didn’t realise this region would have it all. We stayed in Bari to explore the whole area and we enjoyed it very much once we discovered its historichal center so near to the sea. Every day we went to another city. One by one we visited Ostuni, the white city, Alberobelo, a village that seems built by the dwarfs, Polignano a Mare and Monopoli, two historical cities built on the seashore and Matera, the third-oldest continually-inhabited city in the world. These city days were combined with long walks on the beautiful beaches. There are not many sandy beaches near Bari, but because of the stones, the water is turquoise-green and very clear.
Since all Cancers are gourmands, a destination must have good food in order to attract them. Italian food is delicious anyway, but the one in Puglia was a real discovery: seafood orecchiette with a garlic flavour, creamy tiramisu and amazing coffee. I couldn’t ask for more, and recommend it for every Cancer to visit in 2020!

Leo 2020 Travel Horoscope
2020 Dream Destination for Leo Travelers: The Azores, Portugal
If there was ever a place on the planet that was symbolic of Leos, it is undoubtedly the Azores. The people, the landscape, and the culture are really representative of why the Azores is starting to nudge its way into international recognition like the standout and center of attention it should be.
The Azores are an archipelago of nine islands in the mid-Atlantic that are an autonomous region of Portugal. While the Azores have previously sat a little unnoticed due to the hype of other destinations, it was only a matter of time before they became at the forefront of travelers’ minds. The islands are a mixture of cerulean blue waters, green landscapes, and a lot of geothermal energy and landscapes. The Azores were formed by volcanoes and the fiery landscapes never forget to let you know that.
Leo’s tend to be a bit dramatic (trust me, I’m a Leo!) and the Azores are pretty dramatic in its own right. From the landscapes of Sao Miguel to the volcanic peaks on Pico, there is no shortage of landscapes that will make your jaw drop. Many travelers flock to Furnas, a city on eastern Sao Miguel where you can enjoy geothermal spas, botanical gardens, and food cooked underground by the volcanic heat. Be sure to add your swimsuit to your Azores packing list as there are so many heated, natural pools on the island!
On the western side of Sao Miguel, you will notice landscapes and viewpoints that give the perfect photo opportunity. From Setes Cidades back to the capital city of Ponta Delgada, there is something for everyone on these magical islands. And they “dress to impress”… you will definitely not be disappointed.
The Azores are topping a lot of travel lists and the best thing about them is that in 2020, getting there from Lisbon and other parts of Europe is cheap and easy. Once there, the accommodation is also extremely affordable. You can find discount airlines traveling down to the Azores and as a result, the main airlines are lowering their fares, making the Azores accessible to everyone. It is an especially popular place nowadays with Americans and Canadians as there are sizeable diasporas in both countries giving people slightly more knowledge about the islands than in other parts of the world.
Virgo 2020 Travel Horoscope
2020 Dream Destination for Virgo Travelers: Switzerland by Train
I’m a Virgo! Sorry, but that’s just the way it is. You know what we Virgos are like… we are picky, over-analytical, orderly perfectionists, who expect nothing less than perfection from the people and places around us. So you can imagine my sheer joy, as a Virgo, on leaving behind the scruffy, never-on-time Italian rail system with its gruff unhelpful staff and stepping on board the Swiss equivalent. The contrast was truly incredible.
We walked into Zurich train station and bought our 15 day Swiss Rail Pass without any problems or complications and were given maps, timetables, and directions to the platform we would need to go to get our train to Lucerne. We spent the next 15 days wandering around Switzerland with our Swiss Pass tucked into our day packs, and what a great experience it was.
The trains were always absolutely punctual. They were always immaculately clean. The staff were always helpful. The system was faultless! A Virgo’s dream!
Not only did our pass entitle us to train travel wherever we wanted to go in Switzerland without having the hassle of needing to make reservations, but it also gave us free use of local transport in the towns and cities we visited and free access to some great museums and tourist attractions. One of the highlights of our trip was a visit to Gruyere, so much more than tasty cheese.
It was such a pleasure not having to constantly drag out our wallets and deal with purchasing tickets in a foreign currency every time we got on a bus or train or into a museum. We just flashed our Swiss pass and away we’d go. Very liberating!
And, of course, Switzerland itself! A neat, tidy, well organized, efficient country and such a very beautiful place in the winter when we travelled, with everything covered in a layer of crisp white pristine snow! All you Virgos out there, you’ll love traveling Switzerland by train in 2020!

Libra 2020 Travel Horoscope
2020 Dream Destination for Libra Travelers: Jamaica
I am a Libra which means I have profound knowledge of nature and appreciation for arts and beauty. I have traveled back and forth to Jamaica for many years and the reason it is listed as an astrological travel destination for Libras in 2020 is because of the positive vibes and unforgettable experiences that you can have, year after year.
Jamaica is an island rich in culture and its people are more than happy to share its beauty with others. Jamaica allows me to explore and connect with new people. It offers an open space to share my own thoughts with the view of a beautiful landscape in the background. This, mixed up with food and music are the perfect combo for bringing together a sense of balance and harmony. As the most balanced sign in the zodiac, the openness of daily conversations helped me to feel more connected. I relaxed then started my journey from Kingston, through to Montego Bay and over to Negril for a lounge in the sun. By the end of my journey, I realized that it was the people that fascinated me more than the island itself.
Finally, being an intellectual air sign in Jamaica, I connected with many interesting objects. I was mostly attracted to the hand-sculpted ornaments made from wood, and now, every time I travel to the island, I collect a new piece of art to add to my collection.

Scorpio 2020 Travel Horoscope
2020 Dream Destination for Scorpio Travelers: Mexico City
Us Scorpios are a truly contradictory sign. We can be independent and clingy, loving and cold, and strong-willed and malleable. Above anything else, however, we are intense about almost everything. This contradictory intense nature is the reason why I think that Mexico City is the ideal destination for those born under the sign of the scorpion for 2020.
Mexico City is a destination that’s steeped in ritual and legends as well as being a modern metropolis. It’s a city of extreme wealth and crippling poverty, a place where you’ll find just as good food at a roadside taqueria as you will in a world-famous restaurant, and a capital city where history and progress collide. It’s also a very intense place; with a population of some 22 million people, it’s a city that is constantly on the move day and night.
Mexico’s capital is also a fitting destination for Scorpios in 2020 because we are a water sign and, once upon a time, the Valley of Mexico was a vast lake system connected by a complex system of causeways and canals, and dotted with islands and floating gardens. Today, it’s hard to imagine that the urban sprawl that characterizes Mexico City was ever home to lagoons and waterways but there is one corner of the capital where a system of waterways remain. In Xochimilco, in the south of the city, you can hire a trajinera (a type of Mexican gondola) and float along ancient canals, while being serenaded by Mariachi bands – Scorpios will feel right at home.

Sagittarius 2020 Travel Horoscope
2020 Dream Destination for Sagittarius Travelers: Istanbul
If you’re a Sagittarius like me, you’re more likely to dip your toes into a thousand new things than dive deeply into any one activity, philosophy or travel destination. For travelers who want something new, something different, something fresh and something that is never the same as it was the day, week, month or year before, there is one perfect travel destination for 2020: Istanbul, Turkey.
As the only capital city in the world to span two continents (Europe and Asia), Istanbul offers something new around every corner and across every waterway. On my most recent trip to Istanbul I based myself in Sultanahmet, on the European site. After a delicious Turkish breakfast (and a spot of dolphin-watching in the Bosporus Strait!) on the rooftop terrace at Hotel Buhara Family Inn, I would walk down the street, past world-famous attractions like the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia, to hop on the tram that would take me further into Europe, or to the boats across the water to Asia.
Traveling between continents is impossibly easy in Istanbul. One day, I took an Istanbul food tour where we started with coffee, breakfast and a market tour in Europe before hopping over to Asia for Turkish tea, mezze and baklava. Another day started in the up-and-coming, Instagram-friendly neighborhood of Balat (on the European side) but ended with happy hour drinks in the bars of Kadikoy (on the Asian side). Even with my short attention span and my constant desire to see something new, Istanbul kept me enthralled for an entire week, and I’m already thinking about a return visit (my third!) in 2020…

Capricorn 2020 Travel Horoscope
2020 Dream Destination for Capricorn Travelers: Flores, Guatemala
Capricorns are a powerhouse of ambition, drive and success; a mix of old soul wisdom and resourcefulness. Some describe us as a special breed of leaders but they misunderstand our quest for knowledge and lust for life. What destination could be a better fit for Capricorns in 2020, therefore, than the luscious Flores in northern Guatemala?
Most people associate Flores with Tikal but did you know there are four other impressive temple ruins there too? Yaxha, Nakun and Naranjo are lesser visited than Tikal, while the ruins of Aquateca lie further away, buried in the midst of thick jungle, surrounded by steep ravines and the waters of Petexbatun Lagoon. If you visit this virtually unknown ruin, you could be the only person there (although watch out for crocodiles and cheeky monkeys howling in the trees above!).
Flores is a warren of narrow cobbled streets and higgledy shops, and is a haven for vegan food, but if you crave off-the-beaten-path travel, hop onto a lancha and land in secret hotspot San Miguel. Hike to the top where you’ll find Tayazal, discover the remains of the last of the Maya capitals and climb the Mirador del Rey Canek where you can expect unprecedented, elevated views over the colourful island of Flores.
You might be surprised to learn there’s a sandy beach nearby, La Playa Chechenal, and if you’re game you could pop over to Jorge’s to blast through the trees on the rope swing, plunging yourself into the fresh water of Lake Itzen. If that sounds like too much adventure, visit Las Arcas, a true rehabilitation center for animals rescued from the illegal pet and traffic trade. The centre successfully release hundreds of animals every year & rely on donations.

Aquarius 2020 Travel Horoscope
2020 Dream Destination for Aquarius Travelers: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
I’m an Aquarius, which makes me rebellious, independent and spontaneous by nature. As the water bearer, I am drawn to destinations by the ocean. This makes Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic the perfect destination for an Aquarius in 2020.
With a fierce sense of adventure, Punta Cana delivers plenty of opportunity to be spontaneous. Start by taking in the jungle views from above with ziplining courses. Then, there are loads of other adventure opportunities too with water sports and more to enjoy. On a day trip to Hoyo Azul cave you can trek through the jungle, enjoy the natural scenery and jump through the sink hole for a swim.
If you’re visiting Punta Cana with kids, you won’t want to miss the chance to visit Monkey Land. This encounter with the adorable squirrel monkeys was a highlight for our visit. Plus, you’ll also have the chance to learn about how coffee is made and a little more about local life.
The beaches of Punta Cana offer turquoise blue water and white sand, perfect for a sunset stroll or a relaxing time spent enjoying the good weather. We were lucky enough to stay in an all-inclusive resort on the beach. This meant enjoying great food and delicious fruity cocktails by the pool and beach each day.
With great weather all year round, Punta Cana is a perfect place to visit for a tropical escape! Just what us water-loving, thrill-seekers are looking for!

Pisces 2020 Travel Horoscope
2020 Dream Destination for Pisces Travelers: Rishikesh, India
I’m a Pisces and I totally live up to the classic description for people born under this sun sign: sensitive, imaginative, creative, and spiritual. We also love to escape from reality and live in a world of fantasy and imagination. There is no better place for a Pisces in 2020 than Rishikesh in North India, as it meets all of our needs for beauty, creative stimulation, and inner peace.
George Harrison of The Beatles was also a Pisces. He and the lads visited Rishikesh in February 1969, and the world is still talking about it. The Beatles put Rishikesh on the world map as a destination for spiritual seekers. Yoga students, too, flock to this small, picturesque town on the Ganga (Ganges River) — Rishikesh is now known as the Yoga Capital of the World.
Here, the Ganga spills from the lower Himalayas in a rush of green crystal water and flows through a peaceful valley. Ashrams and temples line the banks, along with an increasing number of hip cafes and small guest houses serving vegetarian food and spectacular views. The scent of incense fills the air, along with the sounds of temple bells, devotional songs, and chanting.
For those who want a wellness vacation, the options for Yoga classes, meditation centres, Ayurvedic massage, astrology readings, healthy eating, and so on, are endless. If it’s a creative outlet you seek, there are dance and music classes, and regular performances during the tourist season (October to April). Or, if you are called to volunteer, or offer seva (volunteer service at an ashram), there are likewise many opportunities, such as Ramana’s Garden Orphanage in Tapovan.
Even adventurous travelers will enjoy Rishikesh as a base for white water rafting and trekking in the lower Himalayas. There are almost as many adventure tour operators as Yoga ashrams in town! Or, you can just sit quietly by the mesmerizing river, and watch the world flow by … feeling the serenity of the eternal moment and the mysterious movements of the cosmos. Like me, you might feel that you were called here … read on for the story of my time at the Beatles Ashram in Rishikesh.
